Scenes and Sequences 

A candle flickers on a dark stage. Poised and ardent, a seated figure begins to play her instrument. L’Erbarme Dich, Bach’s famous aria for the supplication and repentance of Saint Peter, fills the room. As the figure plays on, the stripped-down scene persists but its sequence changes. The player begins to cut her sweeping drama short, dropping the endnote of her composition with each recitation. The scene is a vision of passion and dissolution.
